What does it mean to be fully present in the moment?
How about we all start by putting down the phone, closing our Facebook windows, pause the snapchats, and give me just a minute of your time…
Like most of us, we pack way too much into our days, we worry about things that haven’t happened yet, we multitask, run late, and end our days, weeks and years wondering where the time has gone. This doesn’t have to be your reality. This is not the point where I say that we should all become meditation guru’s, although the benefit of mediation helps tremendously. This is where we talk about being more mindful.
Did you know if we slowed down, offered ourselves more time in the day to think and just breathe consciously, it is scientifically proven that we reduce our heart rate, make better decisions and have fewer accidents. This act of being present might just be a key to a happier and healthier life.
So how do you start? Keep it simple, start by looking at your daily calendar and think about how you would like to show up for the day. Calm and relaxed, tried and stressed, running late and over caffeinated? Then pick ONE exercise you can do to be present: Turn off your phone, stop multitasking for 10 minutes, take a walk, don’t eat in front of any screens. These acts of slowing things down, even briefly, are proven to increase our endorphins and provide us more satisfaction and happiness. Now who doesn’t want that!
We encourage our team members who are looking for some support in starting their mental well-being journey or feeling overwhelmed with where to begin, to contact our employee assistance program called TMLR. TMLR (Team Member Life Resources) connects team members, their dependents and any household members with free, confidential support, including 5 free in-person counseling sessions.
At Target, we are working hard to help our team slow down, invest in their own well-being while being present in their time at work and at home. The more we support our team members to live their best lives the better we are as team Target!
Cheers to being present!
