Personal and Professional Growth
“Congratulations on getting the job. Target is a great place to work – I have been here for five years–started out on the warehouse floor, advanced through several roles to my current position, and have had a positive experience on the Target DC team. You can too.”
As a Senior Target Security Specialists (STSS), this is how I welcome new employees during our New Hire Orientation at the distribution center. Some of the highlights I emphasize are Target’s competitive pay and benefits, good work/life balance, and opportunity to advance in a variety of roles and departments. The best term to describe my career at Target would be growth, and in more ways than one.
On a personal level, while employed at Target our family has increased from two people to five (we now have two girls and a boy!). Through that busy period we were thankful for Target’s excellent health insurance and paid parental leave policy. In addition, ample vacation time and reasonable work hours have made for an effective work / life balance in our home – which has been priceless.
On a professional level, I have gained extensive job knowledge and logistics skills from the experience of being an Outbound Team Member, Dispatcher, and STSS. These different, yet connected, roles have been an opportunity to experience first-hand the inner workings of a large distribution facility and the stores it supports. Today’s supply chains are highly technical and offer interesting tech, clerical, and hybrid positions. For me, it has been fascinating to learn the computer systems that enable our operational departments to work hand in hand with each other and meet the needs of our guests on a daily basis.
The most enjoyable part of my Target experience, however, has been meeting the many incredible people that make up the company. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to interact with a diverse and growing network of fellow employees at the distribution, store, and headquarter levels. What I have found is an innovative, highly motivated group that embodies Target’s employment culture. This has been especially true of the STSS team that I am a part of. We work hard, stay positive, and (most importantly) have fun in the process. We enjoy each other’s company and have embarked on a number of self-organized team builds such as white water rafting, kayaking, and Frisbee golf.
I have experienced lots of growth in my career at Target, you can too.
