I’m pretty sure that I have one of the coolest, most-rewarding jobs at Target. I get it. Working on the Product Investigations & Recall team does not sound as glamorous as collaborating with the newest design partner or hot, new musician, but when I describe my job to my friends, their responses sound something like, “That’s amazing! Your team is kind of like a bunch of CSI Agents who look for clues to solve cases.” While I never really thought of it that way before, that truly is an accurate statement. Let’s face it, recalls aren’t a sexy topic to talk about, but the work this team does to ensure your families and friends are safe is really quite remarkable.
To put it simply, our team listens. We listen to what guests, Facebook followers, store team members, vendors, buyers, government agencies, and several other partners have to say about a product when they feel that it could be unsafe. (Whew! That’s a lot of people!) We analyze every report we receive and we investigate. While we aren’t looking for fingerprints or DNA samples, we are putting the pieces of the puzzle together. What are people saying? Is this what our guests should expect from a product like this? Does the product truly live up to Target’s reputation and standards? Once we have answers to all of our questions, we partner and take action as needed.
I am a mom, wife, friend, neighbor, and consumer. As such, I, along with the team, work to ensure that the products on Target’s shelves are safe and of utmost quality for the important people in your lives–just as they are for mine. While we don’t get the press of those who collaborate with Lilly Pulitzer or Taylor Swift, we are here, we are listening, and we’ve got your backs so you don’t have to worry. Now how cool is that?
