Let’s Meetup!

I have to tell you, I’m pretty lucky. I’ve got a really good gig. I work within Talent Acquisition, in a role where I support external partnerships and events. I’ve been in my role for a few years and worked on many different types of partnerships, but it was about a year and a half ago when I was asked “Would you be willing to travel to San Francisco? We’re hosting our first Tech Meetup at our office there and we’d like you to help.” I hadn’t personally been to a Meetup before, but was excited and interested to learn more.

Upon arrival to San Francisco, I went to a local Meetup with a co-worker so I could see what they were all about. It was so casual, a different world from the events I typically planned like career fairs and national conferences. There were boxes of pizza stacked to the side, and a TV with a computer hooked up. That’s it. The goal was truly to all connect with each other, share information and learn. I loved it (and got to see some really cool apps people were working on). And the next night, I had a blast being a part of our own Meetup.

After helping with that successful first Target Tech Meetup in San Francisco, I had the opportunity to help with Tech Meetups in Minneapolis. They have definitely evolved- from our first one with about 30 people in a small meeting room, to our Meetup group (Skyway Software Symposium) now having over 700 members and moving to our larger Target Plaza Commons space. I have learned a lot about the technologies Target uses to make shopping the best it can be for our guests. I have met some amazing people in the technology industry (both local and national, internal and external) that are passionate about their craft. It’s exciting. I love that we can be part of the movement here in Minneapolis to build a united tech community, and that I get the privilege to play a role in that.

We welcome anyone interested in learning to come check out our Tech Meetups and see what they are all about! Learning, eating and networking – what more can you ask for?

  1. I have been on the different Target websites most of the day and realize that the store is much more than great customer service and fair prices. I begam to look at the different careers and training and realized how proud the employees and leadership are of their company. I said that is the kind of place I would like to work for. The Target Meet-Up sounds very interesting because it gives you a chance to come up and share ideas with many different kinds of people and companies. I especially love tbis because I have had the privilage to organize and be involved in some great adventures and great causes like Habitat for Humanity, numerous successful Blood Drives with the Red Cross, Walk forvWarmth, Toys for Tots with the Marine Corp, and others. Its important to work together and come up with new and old ideas and tweek them to reach a goal.I would be honored to be a part of this. Simcerely, Shan

Thank you for sharing your experience. Clearly, Target is a great company which truly cares about not only customer experience, but also work culture. I am a graduate student at the University of Minnesota in applied mathematics, and I have been working on a summer internship application. I wanted to reach out because I would like to be part of the next Target Meetup so I can get to know more about the company and the people who work there. Is this event open to the public?

    Thank you,

  21. I am seeking part-time or Seasonal work in the South Austin, Tx area. I do have Multiple Sclerosis and have been referred to your company for assistance. I am not sure what position to look at as I cannot stand 8 hours a day; however I am told a job with Target would be very accommodating. I have signed up for emails; however have not yet received information. I look forward to hearing about available positions that may accommodate. Thanks so much for any assistance available.

  22. Hello, if you are doing a talent search in Lawton Oklahoma please let me know. I helped open the Lawton store, had to leave but am looking to get back in the culture because I miss the vibe. I was the jewelry brand team member and now am trying to get back on in either hard or soft lines. I have a morning availability Monday thru Saturday, cannot work any shift Monday and Tuesday as I have a job that provides insurance. Hope to hear from you soon.
