Headquarters Internships – halfway there

I cannot believe that the summer for our interns in Minneapolis is halfway through! The energy in the headquarters buildings is incredible and totally contagious; which is making the time fly by.  So far this summer our 393 interns have volunteered to help the education efforts in the Twin Cities and watched the Twins demolish the Yankees at Target Center.  Our 356 undergraduate interns dominated in their kickball league and we got a chance to meet many of their family and friends in our first ever Undergraduate Guest Event last weekend!  It was so fun to learn more about what is important to them and introduce their loved ones to Target.

Our 37 MBA interns are just getting started! I was able to join them at a cooking class a where we learned how to hand crank pasta.  It was delicious! They are doing an incredible job connecting to Target and their peers in the Twin Cities and we are excited to co-sponsor a Summer Soiree event that will allow them to meet fellow MBA interns at companies throughout the Twin Cities.

All interns have had the opportunity to meet with incredible leaders at Target such as Jeff Jones, our CMO.  These speaker series have been really fun because they provide an informal setting for our interns to connect directly with our leaders.  I’m so impressed by the types of questions the interns have asked from “how did you tell when an ‘interest’ became a ‘passion’ and how did you pursue it at work?” to questions about Target strategy.  I know our leaders have enjoyed them as much as our interns!

A little over 60% of our interns are new to the Twin Cities and they have really embraced city living by taking in the art fairs, food truck festivals, and even the Mall of America! We are currently in the middle of a Well-Being Challenge and each week interns are posting pictures of what they are doing in the community, or focusing on their heath through such events like the Minneapolis Color Run 5k, or focusing on social well-being by reaching out to meet someone new.

I am so impressed by the significant and authentic connections our interns are making to Target and Minneapolis as well as the enthusiasm, drive, and inquisitive nature they bring to their program assignments. I know that they all are unique and I cannot wait to see what more they will accomplish in the next few weeks. We still have several fun events coming up this summer as our interns work to wrap up their projects in the business. Keep up the great work you guys!
