The ABC’s of Target Pharmacy: O is for Ovidrel

Ovidrel, Menopur, and Follistim, oh my!  These were a few of the prescriptions I faced when I first started working at my current Target Pharmacy location. Truth be told, I wasn’t very familiar with them.

Little did I know the pharmacist before me had partnered with a local fertility specialty clinic and realized the opportunity for a pharmacy to carry fertility medication. Soon after, the pharmacist, was able to bring in fertility medications like Ovidrel, Menopur, and Follistim. Luckily, for me, the Target technicians and nurses at the fertility clinic were a wealth of knowledge and helped me quickly learn about how to use the medications and billing.

It’s exciting working for a company that allows their pharmacists to identify a need and empower them to fill it. If we had been confined to limited items or medication pricing, we may never have been able to partner with the fertility clinic so easily. That’s why I love working at Target.

One of the most exciting parts of my job is seeing the entire journey of the arrival of a newborn baby to a family that has struggled with fertility issues. It is these families that we just love see start with Ovidrel, then prenatal vitamins, and finally pain relief medications after the arrival of their new bundle of joy.

Although filling prescriptions for medications was very daunting at first, I am now so thankful for my predecessor’s willingness to branch out, solve a need and for Target having the framework in place to make it happen!
