Enjoy a guest post from my friend, Jason, who is a member of the LGBTA Business Council (Employee Resource Group) at Target:
Everyone who knows me knows I absolutely love Twin Cities Pride! I look forward to the celebration every year – the events in the park, the wild parade down Hennepin Avenue and the numerous block parties … so much fun! Target has been a great supporter of Twin Cities Pride and the LGBTA community for years – having a booth in Loring Park with interactive games, hosting team member events and providing volunteer opportunities to celebrate our diversity. But this year, we at Target are taking Pride to the next level.
For the first time, Target will be offering our guests at Target.com an exclusive line of Pride merchandise! As a buyer for Target.com and a member of our LGBTA Business Council, I was so thrilled to lead this initiative for the enterprise. The experience aligned my personal passion supporting the LGBT community with my merchandising profession – producing amazing results. The Pride T-shirts are super cute! And will look fabulous on our guests and team members celebrating at LGBT Pride festivals across the country this June.
You wouldn’t believe the amount of energy and excitement within Target for this program to launch. So many team members have contributed their skills and passion to this project to ensure its success. From picking the final designs and negotiating a designer collaboration with Gwen Stefani, to developing a communications plan to external audiences – the approach has truly been collaborative and inspiring. The contacts and partnerships I have established across the enterprise through this special project have provided a great learning experience in my young buying career at Target, and I look forward to building upon these experiences as I advance my career within merchandising while also continuing to play a key role on the LGBTA Business Council.
So if you’re looking for a fun new tee to wear to the Pride parade – be sure to check out our assortment launching May 20 at target.com/pride. You’ll look stylish and feel great knowing all proceeds from your purchase will benefit the Family Equality Council. Happy Pride 2012!
